Q. "What is this?" - A. "A Color GRAPHIC Newsletter generator!"
------------- -------------------------------------
"Catch The News" is a very simple but powerful NEWSLETTER generator
for Wildcat! 3.x SysOp's.
This generator not only allows you to use your favorite text editor... but
also allows you to use "TheDraw" & "WilDraw" to combine text with color
graphics. You can even draw a picture and add the text inside "TheDraw" or
"WilDraw". It will import ASCII, ANSI or TEXT or ?
BEST RESULTS WOULD BE TO USE THE "WILDRAW" FOR GRAPHICS SO YOU DON'T
HAVE TO MAKE TWO COPIES OF THE NEWSLETTER.
The boxes, side bar, and header are done in Catcodes for this reason.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This was written so YOU can do what YOU want to do with the NEWSLETTER!
The way it looks is ALL up to YOU! .. just TEXT, just GRAPHICS, or both!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
You also have the option (for text) to select any color you wish for
foreground & background colors.
You can even add a side bar to give the apperance of computer paper.
(You can have it erase the side bar, even AFTER you have placed it
in the newsletter. Just say NO to the side bar in the CATCH.CFG file
the next time, and it will erase it from the old one as well as
the new News).
Another option is to ADD the DATE & TIME to the top of each new News
item you write (This can also be turned on/off in the CATCH.CFG file).
You also have the option of boxes around the text, and you select the
colors for the boxes and the border background.
=============================== Files =====================================
CATCH.EXE .... Main program
CATCH.CFG .... Configuration setup file
CATCH.BAT .... Use AFTER you write your NEWS
CATCH.DOC .... This file
Special file ----> CATCH2.EXE ... Use this file if you have BRUN45.EXE
in your PATH. (rename to CATCH.EXE)
Back-up the original one first!
===========================================================================
SETUP
-----
First thing you do is create a directory for "Catch The News".
Example Below.
CD\WC30
MD CATCH
Now... EDIT the CATCH.CFG file to YOUR BBS name and the settings you want.
More help inside the CATCH.CFG file.
Next.. Write your NEWS! You MUST call it.. CATCH.LST <--------- MUST
Use your FAVORITE text editor, "TheDraw", or "WilDraw" to
write your NEW News in.
Done! When you are finished with writeing your NEW News, (REMEMBER it must
be called CATCH.LST) then run CATCH.EXE and the rest is automatic.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Options See CATCH.CFG
-------
* If you use the SIDE BAR effect? You can only have up to 73
characters per line (allow for the bars).
If you don't use the SIDE BAR, then you can go up to 80
characters per line of News (Graphics or regular Text).
If you use the boxes? You can only have up to 67 characters
per line (allow for the border & box).
If you select the Boxes and the Side Bars at the same time, the
Boxes will win.
Start all your text on the first space (a space is automatically
added).
If you use "TheDraw", or "WilDraw"... then just select ALL
the defaults each one gives.
And they can be up to 80 charaters per line (full screen).
* I DON'T recommend that you use CLS (clear screen), or "@CLS@
between each picture. It won't give a scrolling effect that
way. And Wildcat! will supply the PAUSE when needed. (I change
this option for all my users who don't select, ERASE that dumb
PAUSE line).
*** You have the option of deleting CATCH.LST after each run
of CATCH.EXE (But I recommend you don't, in case you need to EDIT
it).
The Output file (your Newsletter) will be called NEWS.LST
I have included a BATCH file to rename it to the correct
name (NEWSLTR.BBS) and copy it to the correct directory.
( Default = C:\WC30\DISP )
EDITING
-------
The OLD Newsletter will be renamed to OLDNEWS.LST
* DO NOT DELETE this file (OLDNEWS.LST) it contains ALL the old
news you have written and the NEW News you write will be
placed on top of this file. ONLY delete this file if you no
longer wish to have the OLD news added to the bottom of the
NEW Newsletter.
You may EDIT any part of this file with ANY text editor.
* In this file you will see this character, ~ DO NOT DELETE this!
This tells the program where one news item ends and the other starts.
Now you can place a ~ on the first space of a BLANK line in
front of any text, and it will draw a box around that text the
next time the program is run.
You can select the Side Bar, change your mind and then select
the Boxes, change your mind again, and go to text... and so on..
*** But.. if you want to use graphics?
Stay with TEXT mode i.e., NO Side Bar and NO Boxes selected.
Here you can combine text with pictures, or have your last text
file continue into the graphic screen. Or have Multi graphic
screens to make one, etc.. etc..
You can use ANSI, Text or Catcodes with graphics. Or mix them.
If you use ANSI... you MUST rename the NEWSLTR to NEWSLTR.SCR
and NOT use the BBS extention supplied with the batch file.
* See CATCH.BAT
If you use "TheDraw", edit the bottom of the file and erase all
the characters up to the last character you drew. This makes
for a clean picture without a pause in the middle.
* If you use the Date and Time stamp? It will stay in the OLDNEWS.LST
on ALL selections, even the boxes.
If you want to delete them, use your text editor and reset the
CATCH.CFG file to "N" NO Date.
